What Running Teaches Me About Creative Freelancing

Last Sunday I ran the Gran Carrera del Mediterráneo — 21 km from Alicante to Santa Pola, under clear blue skies, surrounded by hundreds of like-minded people all chasing their own finish lines.
As a creative freelancer, discipline and mental strength are everything. Just like running, there are moments when things feel uphill — when projects don’t materialise, emails go unanswered, or invoices take too long to appear. It takes resilience to keep showing up, to quiet the doubts, and to carry on creating anyway.
Running helps me do exactly that. It clears my mind, re-centres my focus, and reminds me that progress — in work or in life — is made step by step, with patience and persistence.
Three days later I’m still buzzing — and already looking up next year’s race (plus a few extras!). Every run, every challenge, adds a bit more strength — and that’s what makes me a more focused, grounded, and determined designer.
