I was delighted to be commissioned by Somerset Life magazine to illustrate their Christmas front cover for the second year running — a real honour as a Somerset-born illustrator with a deep love for the county’s landscapes, villages and storytelling charm.
2024: West Pennard & Glastonbury Tor My first cover for Somerset Life featured a cosy winter scene in West Pennard, with the iconic Glastonbury Tor rising in the distance. Snow-dusted cottages, warm window glow and a quiet festive atmosphere set the tone for a truly Somerset Christmas. This location was special as it is where I went to Primary School. 2025: Dunster Castle This year, I was invited back to create the 2025 Christmas cover — I chose an illustrated celebration of Dunster Castle and the historic village below. From the soft winter light on the castle walls to twinkling festive touches around Dunster’s streets, the artwork captures the magic of a Somerset Christmas in one of the county’s most beloved locations. Working with Somerset Life is always a joy — bringing together my love of illustration, local heritage and seasonal storytelling. Each cover is drawn by hand digitally, using layers of colour, texture and character to create a warm, nostalgic winter scene rooted in real Somerset places.
