Illustrating Hannover: Creating an Educational Map & Learning Pack for Schools

I recently completed a large-scale illustration and design project for the Bristol–Hannover partnership, creating detailed educational maps and learning materials for schools.
The aim was to bring the city of Hannover to life in a way that is engaging, accessible and visually memorable for children — combining clear information with playful, character-led illustration.

The Brief

The brief was to create a resource that could be used in schools to support learning about Hannover — its geography, culture, environment and people.
It needed to balance educational content with strong visual appeal, making it easy for children to explore and understand.

How I did it

What was created

My approach combines illustration with structured graphic design, ensuring the content is not only visually engaging but also clear and easy to navigate.
For this project, I developed a consistent visual style throughout, using simplified forms, limited colour palettes and character-based elements to keep the design approachable and cohesive.
The map and supporting pages were designed to work together as a complete learning resource.
