Clevedon Pier, the only Grade 1 listed pier in the country that I have been lucky enough to illustrate on multiple occasions, stretches out into the Bristol Channel from the beautiful North Somerset town of Clevedon.
It collapsed during stress testing in 1970. Following a massive fundraising effort from the local community, it was finally repaired and reopened in 1989. To mark the 50 year anniversary since its collapse, I worked with the team at Clevedon Pier to re-draw their logo. I created the logo as a vector, meaning it can be stretched to any size without losing definition. This format allowed Clevedon Pier to create signs, advertising and the beautiful plaque seen below. The unveiling of the new plaque - featuring my new logo - was reported on in the North Somerset Times newspaper. Clevedon Pier unveiled the plaque on the anniversary of the collapse. Below is the logo as well as the lovely feature in the North Somerset Times about the event. If you read down you will see a little mention of myself. I love being commissioned to create bespoke, customised artwork -- bringing someone's idea to life and providing them with a digital piece of art to remind them of a memorable moment.
This commission was a special bicycle ride from Bristol in southwest England to Barcelona in northeast Spain, to raise money for some fantastic causes. It was a joy to go through the team's journey and pick out the details I could bring to life with my illustrations -- such as their crossing the iconic Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol, crossing the English Channel, docking in Cherbourg, cycling through places such as Laval, Saumur, La Rochelle and Libourne and crossing the Pyrenees mountains into northern Spain. The final artwork was printed on luxurious German Etching paper 305gms as A2. As I'd created the illustration as a vector, it can be resized to any scale -- as can the separate elements of the poster. If you would like a bespoke illustration to mark a memorable moment (such as a first house, engagement, wedding, family picture, favourite pet) of if you'd like to put an image of yourself into one of my existing prints, please get in touch via the contact page. Did you know The Dig for Victory Show At the North Somerset Showground has moved?!
This year it will be at Ashton Court and that is not the only thing that has changed! Here is the brand new artwork I have illustrated for the fantastic event. Visit http://www.digforvictoryshow.com/ for tickets to the show.it. As part of a re-published edition of this 1900's book, I was commissioned to illustrate 62 chapters.
Using the first letter of the opening word, I illustrated a character / scene or object which depicted what happened with in that chapter. See all 62 bespoke designs below or buy the book 'Mr Facey Romford's Hounds' here. If you'd like your own bespoke illustration, please get in touch via the contact page. For the Curzon Roof Appeal, I created a Christmas card of a snowy Curzon and Clevedon town centre. I sold nearly 800 cards of this design via shops across the town -- and more than 20% of the profit went to the Curzon. For another part of the appeal, artists (myself included) were asked to transform a roof tile that was then sold by auction. My one, above, sold for an incredible £390! Check out the story in the North Somerset Times: Buy my Christmas cards of the Curzon and Clevedon Pier here (a % of the profits are still going to the cinema). And visit the rest of my Etsy shop here. Here are some of my photographs from the RHS Tatton Park Flower Show 2019 -- in Tatton Park, near Knutsford in Cheshire.
I had a stall selling my eco-friendly cushions, napkins, tea towels, cards and lavender bags inside the Country Living Pavilion. Visit my Etsy store for all my products here. And if you'd like a bespoke illustration, or to put yourself into one of my existing prints, please get in touch via the contact page. With only one week to go until the RHS Tatton Park Flower Show, I am busy finishing last minute signs, layout ideas and these final products. One of my main aims with my products is sustainability and these lavender bags finish of my products nicely. They are made from the cut-offs of fabric from the Napkins, Tea-towels and cushions which are printed on recycled fabric. The bags are then stuffed with even more left-overs and aromatic lavender and rice for weight.
I have only used sustainable fabrics in the production of all my products and wasting has been kept to a minimum- the fact that I can even use the cut-offs to stuff the bags has really made my project worthwhile and a positive step forward to eco-friendly homewares! These will be available to buy at the RHS Tatton Park Flower Show (17th -21st July) and then on my Etsy. Please do come and say 'Hi' if you are there, I will be on stand 850a in the Country Living Pavilion. Here's a collection of puns and jokes about illustrators and illustrating that I've stumbled across on the internet. Enjoy!
What does an illustrator do when they want to relax? Draw themselves a bath. How did they create the first illustration of Stonehenge? They Druid. What did Adobe say to its son Photoshop? PS I love you. Illustrators always draw attention. What do you call a deer who wants to make cartoons? Adobe Illustrator. Four fonts walk into a bar and the barman says ... we don't serve your type in here. Im very font of you, you are just my type. Illustrators have a sketchy reputation Illustrators are always 'drawing' conclusions. Today I collected the napkins that have been put together locally in Somerset by the Cats Whiskers. I am so pleased with the quality and how the gorgeous recycled fabric is complimented by the repurposed khaki cotton thread and organic cotton label. They are now available to buy in packs of 2 for just £18 plus p&p. These are reusable - so don't waste money on throw away paper towels and buy sustainable statement napkins!
I only have one month left to get ready for the RHS Tatton Park flower show and I am trying not to panic. As my to do list seems to get longer and longer I have managed to get some brand new designs sent off to print. These Beautiful animals, birds and reptiles will be available to buy at the show and on my etsy page, all printed on recycled paper with recycled envelopes and packaged in cornstarch bags.
One of the hardest parts of being a designer is actually working on your own branding. I like so many different styles, colours and fonts that sticking to one design is nearly impossible. However, I have finally decided upon a layout I am happy with and that is mainly because of the style I have developed over many years of hard work, a Masters, hours of illustrating, but most of all a categorical love for wildlife and a desire to save the animals.
My collections feature designs of animals whose habitats are all being harmed by the farming of palm oil — the orang-utan, the green peacock, the Sumatran tiger and the clouded leopard. As well as a brand NEW collection raising awareness for British Insects which are facing extinction. These homewares are designed for people who enjoy fashion and interior design but also care about the environment and want to buy considered products with low carbon footprints, using sustainable fabrics. Everything is printed on recycled fabric, organic cotton or recycled paper and I am proudly PLASTIC FREE. Please follow my blog for the latest information about my mission to launch my eco-friendly homewares brand and to SAVE THE ANIMALS!
